Our Caring and Loving Community Continues to Amaze Us
Everyone has experienced times when it seems as though the world has gone wrong and we lose our faith in others. We have all witnessed the worst in human behavior either up close or on the evening news. Witnessing and enduring this trauma is painful and it shakes our faith in the community.
Here at Ruth’s House, we help our residents to see the opposite – the good and caring community around them – and we try to create a kind and supportive environment. We celebrate those times when our community comes together and we can witness caring and love and true support for one another. One of those times just happened for Ruth’s House when we received a grant from Open Your Heart Foundation to purchase 20 new dressers for our resident’s rooms so that they have a nice and safe place to put their belongings.
From Open Your Heart we received money for purchasing 20 dressers from IKEA and hauling away the old dressers by the Junk Trunk MN. IKEA delivered the dressers to the shelter a simple 3 large and heavy boxes PER Dresser. Thanks to Adam, Donald, Joe, Aaron, Andrew, Tim, and Pilot who volunteered with muscles and a willingness to carry them upstairs.
And then we were faced with the daunting task of assembling all of these dressers (if you have ever assembled an IKEA product you know how daunting it is). A group of volunteers came forward Rick, Micah, Dave, Herb, John, Bret, Doug, and Randy assembled, placed and secured the dressers to the wall. What a kind demonstration of community support.
We wish to thank Open Your Heart and our volunteers for not only their help and contribution to Ruth’s House but also for demonstrating again to us and to our residents the effect of a caring community.
THANK YOU ALL
