Domestic violence is a pervasive problem that affects millions of people worldwide. According to statistics, every year, around 10 million people experience domestic violence in the United States alone. In addition, studies show that one in four women and one in nine men will experience some form of domestic violence in their lifetime.

The effects of domestic violence can be devastating, with physical and emotional trauma often lasting for years. Domestic violence can also have long-term effects on children who witness or experience it, leading to developmental delays and psychological issues.

Unfortunately, domestic violence often goes unreported, with victims afraid to speak out or seek help. In fact, research shows that only 34% of people who experience domestic violence will report it to the police.

It is important to understand that domestic violence is not just physical abuse. Emotional abuse, such as name-calling, belittling, and controlling behavior, can be just as damaging. In fact, emotional abuse is often the precursor to physical violence.

Victims of domestic violence need support from their friends, family, and community. Ruth’s House is one of those resources available in Rice County dedicated to providing a safe place to stay and access to services.
