When I first moved back to Faribault after a very long absence from the area, I found myself spending time in both Faribault and Northfield, I met many people who went to great lengths to point out the differences in these two communities situated so close together here in RIce County.

It is clear that industry is more of a focus in Faribault and higher education institutions are a big part of Northfield. Those differences are obvious.  Still, the similarities between these two small cities are what we notice at Ruth’s House and Sarah’s House.  Both Faribault and Northfield have a strong faith community that is very active in helping members of our community who are in crisis.  These faith communities are kind and non-judgmental and certainly action oriented.  They don’t just preach about helping others, they help in the community every day.

In addition to our strong faith communities, both Faribault and Northfield have a long history of supporting non-profit organizations engaged in helping those in need.  Both cities have businesses and private individuals who hold up a huge and growing non-profit sector.  When I call on businesses in both cities and ask for support for Ruth’s House, our large and small businesses step up.  Ruth’s House and Sarah’s House would not exist without the strong community support in Northfield and Faribault.  This is what makes me proud to tell everyone where I live and where I work.  Thank you Rice County!
